The Teacher Climate Superpowers platform has been designed with teachers across Australia, to support teacher and student wellbeing in the face of climate change.
It is a choose-your-own-adventure kind of resource, so you can engage through the formats for learning and reflection that suit you best.
It is designed for multiple purposes:
- to provide practical resources e.g. quiz for students, lesson plans and other classroom activity resources.
- as a professional development resource to help teachers support student learning and wellbeing
- to support teacher wellbeing
This resource is part of the Climate Superpowers initiative, which includes support for the wellbeing of young people and wider communities – including parents, teachers, school administrators & leadership.
It’s all about taking a strengths-based approach to wellbeing in the face of climate change. All the resources have been co-developed with young people, researchers and educators.

WHERE DID THE CLIMATE SUPERPOWERS IDEA START?
The Climate Superpowers website was co-developed with children and young people in Victoria in 2022.
Since then, researchers at the University of Melbourne have continued to collaborate with young people and educators to develop a range of resources – including lesson plans, activity materials and guidance notes – to support teachers who want to help students explore their climate superpowers. This Teacher Climate Superpowers platform is the latest development.
WHO IS BEHIND THESE RESOURCES?
Climate Superpowers is an initiative of University of Melbourne researchers in the Disasters, Climate and Adversity Unit in the School of Population and Global Health. It has been funded by the University of Melbourne Climate CATCH Lab and the Teachers Health Foundation.
The resources have been co-developed with both children and young people (aged 12-25) and Australian teachers.
The original Climate Superpowers website was co-created by young people in Victoria along with researchers from the University of Melbourne – you can read more about this here.
Since then, we have continued to work with students and also teachers across Australia to develop a set of classroom resources to help people who want to embed the idea of climate superpowers within schools.

ARE THESE RESOURCES EVIDENCE-BASED?
Yes. This resource has been created based on individual interviews and focus group discussions with over 60 teachers across Australia in 2024-2025, as well as drawing on previous research conducted within Australia and internationally relating to climate change education, student wellbeing, and teacher wellbeing.
We are continuing to conduct research to better understand the experiences of teachers and students in relation to climate change, and to pilot and improve this resource.

IS THIS A FREE RESOURCE?
Yes.
All resources are provided free of charge during the pilot phase of the Climate Superpowers project. Although this initiative is currently funded for a limited period, we intent to continue offering high-quality resources at no cost. All the core resources including the Climate Superpowers website and the classroom resources will remain freely accessible, and additional tailored supports may become available for interested schools.
I UNDERSTAND THIS PLATFORM IS BEING PILOTED. WHAT DOES THAT INVOLVE?
This resource is being piloted by researchers at the University of Melbourne to help improve it and to better understand teachers’ experiences. Details are provided in the Participant Information.
This also means that this is an evolving resource – in collaboration with teachers like you, we are continuing to expand and improve the suite of Teachers Climate Superpowers resources.
